Workshop on residential inspection program set for Jan.21

JERSEY CITY, N.J., Jan. 7, 2010 – Members of the Chromium Cleanup Partnership will conduct a workshop Jan. 21 on a program that enables residents living near PPG Industries cleanup sites to have their homes inspected for the presence of chrome waste.

The workshop, scheduled for 6:30p.m. at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, 140 Martin Luther King Drive, Jersey City, will be led by Mike McCabe, the independent, court-appointed site administrator for PPG’s
chromium cleanups.

McCabe is also responsible for administration of the residential inspection program, which is open to residences within 400 feet of PPG’s cleanup sites. Homes south of Bramhall Avenue, west of Halladay Street, east of Ocean Avenue and north of Bayview Avenue in Jersey City are also eligible for the program.

Representatives from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the City of Jersey and PPG will be on hand to explain details of the program and answer questions.

The workshop is one in a series of public meetings the partnership is conducting to communicate with residents and interested parties as PPG fulfills its environmental commitments in Hudson County.
